Applications for SAGA positions are to be sent to the partner responsible for the position. As of September 1, 2010 the recruitment situation is as follows

  • All long term ESR (PhD) fellows are now recruited.
  • A short term (10 months ESR fellowship) is expected to be announced by the partner Kongsberg SIM, Norway.
  • 3 ER-fellowships (early post doc. positions) each of duration 9 months still remains to be filled (partners; INRIA, University of Vilnius, Graphitech). Applicants for these positions should have a PhD, but have less  than 5 years of research experience after the degree that allowed the candidate to start on a doctorate study.
  • Most stipends for visiting scientist with more than 10 years of experience have not been filled. The stipends are of one month length. All partners except the industrial partners Missler and Kongsberg SIM have budgets for visiting scientists.

For all of these positions and stipends, the applicants have to fulfil the selection conditions of Marie Curie Initial Training networks.

The selection of fellows will follow a process based on:

  • Equal access opportunities between men and women
  • The scientific skills and the relevance of their research experience with the research area of SAGA

  • The ability to undertake the initial training activities;

  • The expected impact of the proposed training on the researchers’ career;

  • The conformity with the required criteria for eligibility of the researchers within Marie Curie Initial Training Networks

Applications should be submitted as soon as possible.

The new EU-funded Initial Training Network SAGA is looking for promising candidates to fill its available positions. SAGA aims at advancing the mathematical foundations of CAD technology, which can be greatly enhanced by exploiting new techniques from many different mathematical fields such as Algebraic Geometry, Symbolic Computation, Numerical Analysis, Approximation Theory.

SAGA offers an environment of researchers from different areas with a common vision, and tailor-made opportunities to learn geometric modelling both from the industrial and the fundamental mathematics perspective.

The consortium consists of universities from Norway, Austria, Spain, Greece and Lithuania, research institutes from Norway, France and Italy, and CAD industry partners from France and Austria.

Each individual research project will incorporate a longer stay at a cooperating partner from a different sector (i..e. if the project is hosted by a university, the cooperating partner is a research institute or industry, and vice versa). The training program also incorporates training in complementary skills, such as presentation skills, proposal writing, project management, etc., and annual training events for the whole consortium.

Advances in Computational Mechanics (ACM 2013) — A Conference Celebrating the 70th Birthday of Thomas J.R. Hughes will be held on February 24-27, 2013, at Omni San Diego Hotel, in San Diego, California. The 17th International Conference on Finite Elements in Flow Problems (FEF 2013) will be a special track within the birthday celebration conference. There will also be a short course on Computational Fluid–Structure Interaction, tentatively scheduled to take place on February 23-24. For more info see: http://www.tafsm.org/TH70/
